Triathlon's top athletes will be competing in Kona, HI this weekend at one of the toughest IRONMAN courses in the world for their chance to become the new world champion. Our eyes are on Brent McMahon, Liz Lyles, and Michelle Vesterby to take the podium.
They threw down hard and truly raised the bar. SUGOI Pro Triathletes, Canada's Brent McMahon and the US' Liz Lyles recently made headlines at the IRONMAN South America Championships in Florianopolis, Brazil. Not only did Brent and Liz each win their categories, they both set new course records on the 140.6 mile-race.
Brent's stellar performance, his third sub-8 hour IM, ended with a finish time of 7:46:10. A mere 15 seconds off the all-time IRONMAN World Record and a new course record for Florianopolis, this finish handily won Brent first place by over 18 minutes.
SUGOi had a great start the race season at IRONMAN 70.3 California last weekend. #teamSUGOi athletes Andi Dreitz and Michelle Vesterby from Europe, and Cam Wurf from Australia attended the race on a beautiful day in sunny Oceanside, California.
We are thrilled to announce that Andi Dreitz placed 2nd overall, in an incredibly close 3:51:51! Michelle Vesterby placed 13th in her category, up from her previous place of 18th, and unfortunately Cam Wurf was injured and did not participate in the race.

A word that can be used to describe Michelle? Sunny. Her positive-thinking, 'keep smiling' philosophy, and unbeatable determination have netted great results for her in a career that's just getting started. Since turning pro in 2012, Michelle has raced in 24 major triathlons, reaching top 5 in 19 of them. After her memorable 4th place finish at the 2015 IRONMAN World Champion in Kona, Michelle has her sights set reaching that podium in 2016.
This past 4 day weekend, the Mavericks spent time in Miami for a combination race weekend at Ironman 70.3 Miami and a film shoot with Jaybird Sport. The film shoot went wonderfully, capturing lots of pre-race content at Key Biscayne, Virginia Key, Downtown Miami, Jungle Island and South Beach as well as gathering great race day footage of Maverick pro athletes that were competing. The film crew from Jaybird Sport and Goldstein Productions did an amazing job, and we look forward to seeing the finished product in November.
Each year thousands of triathletes around the world mark one special date on their calendar above all others: KONA.
The one they are gunning for all year. For some their ticket comes early in the season and with it the ability to relax during those mid summer races. For others it might be their nervous final race of the season that earns them the right to compete on triathlon's biggest stage.
