Mavericks Take on IronMan 70.3 Miami

28th, October 2015   |   TAGGED: Maverick Multisport, triathlons

BEHIND THE SCENES: Jaybird/Maverick/Goldstein Productions

This past 4 day weekend, the Mavericks spent time in Miami for a combination race weekend at Ironman 70.3 Miami and a film shoot with Jaybird Sport.  The film shoot went wonderfully, capturing lots of pre-race content at Key Biscayne, Virginia Key, Downtown Miami, Jungle Island and South Beach as well as gathering great race day footage of Maverick pro athletes that were competing.  The film crew from Jaybird Sport and Goldstein Productions did an amazing job, and we look forward to seeing the finished product in November.

Sunday was race day and it went great with all 3 Maverick pros finishing in the Top 10.  Pro Justin Metzler, coming off his first Ironman 70.3 World Championship race at the age of 22, was able to stay positioned well in a deep field of 35 men.  Out of the water in the Top 11 and off the bike with a large group in positions 4-12, Justin was able to run a solid 13.1 and cross the line in 3:57:26 to take 10th in the pro men's field.

Pro Molly Roohi consistently moved up over the course of the day stringing together a great bike/run combo that allowed her to cross the line in 4:37:47 and 9th in the pro women's race.

Pro Lesley Smith always likes to make the race interesting using her run to completely chew through the women's field.  After a mid-pack swim she knocked off a handful of ladies on the bike.  Once on two feet though she posted the fastest run of the day, a 1:24:25 to bring her to the line in 4:20:02, good for 4th place female pro.

BONUS Kona Update! As you may know, the Mavericks have an age group component to their roster as well.  At Ironman Louisville 2 weeks ago they had their first Age Group athlete punch her ticket to Kona 2016!  Jesse Mastrom took 3rd in the F30-34 AG in 10:46:57. We wish her the best of luck in 2016!
